Memorial Day Strawberry Pretzel Salad (Printable)

Sweet-and-salty layered treat with a pretzel crust, creamy cheesecake layer and fresh strawberries in strawberry gelatin.

# Ingredient List:

→ Pretzel crust

01 - 2 cups salted pretzel crumbs
02 - 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
03 - 1/4 cup granulated sugar

→ Cream cheese layer

04 - 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
05 - 1 cup granulated sugar
06 - 8 ounces frozen whipped topping (thawed)

→ Strawberry layer

07 - 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
08 - 1 (6-ounce) package strawberry-flavored gelatin
09 - 2 cups boiling water

# How to Make:

01 - Heat the oven to 350°F.
02 - Combine crushed pretzels, melted butter and 1/4 cup sugar in a bowl until evenly moistened.
03 - Press the pretzel mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish and bake 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely.
04 - Beat softened cream cheese with 1 cup sugar until smooth, fold in thawed whipped topping until uniform and airy.
05 - Spread the cream cheese mixture over the cooled crust, sealing the edges, then refrigerate 30 minutes to set.
06 - Dissolve the strawberry gelatin in 2 cups boiling water, whisk until fully dissolved, and allow to cool until slightly thickened but still pourable (about 20–30 minutes).
07 - Arrange sliced strawberries over the chilled cream cheese layer, then gently pour the cooled gelatin over the fruit to cover evenly.
08 - Refrigerate at least 4 hours until fully set, slice into portions and serve chilled.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The sweet and salty combo hits that perfect happy spot – like your favorite summer snack in fancy dessert form
  • I make it ahead and never worry: the layers actually get better as they chill
02 -
  • I once skipped fully spreading the creamy layer and had strawberry gelatin leak under the crust – it turned the first piece into a soggy mystery.
  • Letting the gelatin cool enough to thicken but not set was a revelation – rushing means soggy fruit and a watery top layer.
03 -
  • Don’t let the gelatin touch the creamy layer until it’s just thickened—the difference in texture is remarkable
  • Crush pretzels by hand in a bag for the best crumb (and most fun)
